NASA’s Deep Area Community has detected a faint service sign from the Voyager 2 probe only a few days after dropping contact due to misguided instructions that inadvertently triggered the spacecraft to show barely away from Earth.
Whereas Voyager 2’s 3.7-metre (12-foot) dish antenna remains to be misaimed and the sign is just too weak to hold any information, it signifies the spacecraft remains to be alive, practical and heading in the right direction.
Flight controllers will try to beam new instructions from the DSN at a a lot larger energy stage in an try to coax a realignment with Earth. If that fails, the probe’s laptop periodically executes saved instructions to reset its alignment. The following reset is anticipated in October.
