The First Quarter Moon is Thursday, August 24.  Three of the brilliant classical planets, Mercury, Mars and Saturn) are seen when the sky is totally darkish. Saturn is now rising round 6:30 pm native time, forward of opposition subsequent week. Mercury is now distinguished within the late twilight and is near Mars. On the nineteenth Mercury, Mars and the skinny crescent moon kind a line. Jupiter is distinguished within the morning sky making a triangle with the Pleiades and Hyades.

Morning sky on Saturday, August 19 as seen from Adelaide at 05:27 ACST, (90 minutes earlier than dawn, click on to embiggen). Jupiter is above the horizon close to the Hyades and Pleiades. The inset is the telescopic view of Jupiter presently. 

    

Related views will likely be seen from the remainder of Australia on the equal native time (90 minutes earlier than dawn).  

Night sky on Saturday, August 19 as seen from Adelaide at 18:43 ACST, 60 minutes after sundown (click on
to embiggen). Mercury is near Mars and is the brighter of the pair. The skinny crescent Moon kind a line with Mercury and Mars. The inset is the telescopic view of Mercury presently.

Related views will likely be seen from the remainder of Australia on the equal
native time (60 minutes after sundown).      

Entire sky on Saturday, August 19 as seen from Adelaide at 19:12 ACST, 90 minutes after sundown (click on
to embiggen). Mars is seen low above the north western horizon near Mercury. Saturn is simply rising within the east.

Scorpius and Sagittarius are readily seen close to the zenith.

Between the brilliant star
Canopus and the Southern Cross are one other wealth of binocular objects to
uncover.

   

 Elsewhere
in Australia will see an analogous view on the equal time (90 minutes after sundown).

 

Mercury is now distinguished within the twilight and is near Mars. On the nineteenth Mercury, Mars and the skinny crescent moon kind a line.

Venus is misplaced within the twilight.

Mars is dimming, and is simply above Mercury. On the nineteenth Mercury, Mars and the skinny crescent moon kind a line.

Jupiter is distinguished within the morning sky.

Saturn  is now rising round 6:30 pm native time.
