The Final Quarter Moon is Wednesday January 22. Within the night Venus is near Saturn between the seventeenth and twentieth and closest on the 18th. Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and Mars are seen all collectively (briefly) within the night sky (as are Uranus and Neptune, however you may’t see them with the unaided eye).  Jupiter is previous opposition and is seen all night lengthy. Mars is rising within the night sky, and was at opposition, when it’s greatest and brightest as seen from Earth, on the sixteenth. Mercury is low within the morning twilight. Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) could also be seen within the night twilight, from the sixteenth on.

The Final Quarter Moon is Wednesday January 22.The Moon is at apogee, when it’s furthest from the Earth, on the twenty first.

Western night
sky on Thursday, January 16 as could also be seen at civil twilight, half-hour after sundown (21:00 ACDST) for Adelaide on the sixteenth of January 2025.

 

The comet has survived perihelion (thus far) and has been noticed within the daytime near the solar (do not do this your self). There’s a good probability it is going to be vivid sufficient to see at civil twilight from the sixteenth on (after which at nautical twilight, 60 minutes after sundown from the twentieth). Do not get your hopes too excessive, however it is perhaps attainable to see a tail after the comet head has set. Solely time will inform.

Western night

Venus is instantly seen from early twilight to when the sky is absolutely darkish. Venus is coming nearer to Saturn. Between the seventeenth and twentieth Venus is lower than 3° from Saturn, and the pair are closet on the 18th.

The insets are the telescopic views of Venus and Saturn at the moment.

Northern night
sky on Saturday, January 18 as seen from Adelaide at 22:12 ACDST (90 minutes after sundown), Jupiter is within the north.

Entire sky on Saturday, January 18 as seen from Adelaide at 22:12 ACDST, 90 minutes after sundown (click on
to embiggen). Mars is simply rising within the east. Jupiter is  within the north. Saturn is now above the western horizon and closest to Venus. Venus is simply setting.  Orion  the hunter is excessive within the north-east. The planets are outlined so you may see the place Uranus and Neptune are within the lineup. Pluto is deep within the twilight.

 

The Southern Cross is rising within the Southern sky.  The moon is waning and the fainter clusters and nebula will grow to be extra seen within the run as much as New Moon. 

    

 

 Elsewhere
in Australia will see an identical view on the equal time (90 minutes after sundown).

 

 

Mercury is low within the morning twilight.

Venus is excessive within the night twilight and is instantly seen within the night twilight. Within the night Venus is near Saturn between the seventeenth and twentieth and closest on the 18th.

Mars is rising within the night sky. Mars was at opposition, when it’s greatest and brightest as seen from Earth, on the sixteenth and is seen all night time lengthy.

Jupiter is rising within the the night sky when the sky is absolutely darkish and was at opposition, when it was greatest and brightest as seen from Earth, on the December the eighth.

Saturn is reducing within the night sky coming nearer to Venus. The pair are closet on the 18th.
