Gentry Lee, the licensed Corridor of Famer engineer from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and distinguished science fiction creator, is getting his time highlight in a brand new documentary on his life launching on the SXSW 2025 Movie Competition in Austin this weekend.

Written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Robert Stone, “Starman” is an 85-minute exploration of Lee’s expertise working within the enviornment of interplanetary exploration because the Chief Engineer for the Photo voltaic System Exploration Directorate on the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, and we have got an unique clip from the inspiring documentary to share above.

This is the official synopsis: “Are we alone within the universe? For over half a century, legendary NASA engineer and best-selling science fiction creator Gentry Lee has explored each facet of this query within the realms of house science, robotic exploration and the human creativeness. At age 82, he has come to a revelatory conclusion…”

Along with his innumerable accomplishments whereas employed with NASA, which reveal important contributions to the Viking 1 and Viking 2 missions to Mars that touched down in 1976, Lee partnered with famous novelist and futurist Arthur C. Clarke to proceed his “Rendezvous With Rama” sci-fi saga in three sequels: “Rama II” (1989), “The Backyard of Rama” (1991), and “Rama Revealed” (1993). He additionally teamed up with the late Carl Sagan to co-developed and produce the pioneering 1980 house science TV sequence, “Cosmos.”
