Throughout that mission, Biomass — a part of ESA’s “Earth Explorers” satellite tv for pc collection — will use artificial aperture radar (SAR) to review our planet’s various ecosystems, paying particular consideration to its forests.

Biomass’ SAR instrument “permits it to gather info on the peak and construction of various forest sorts and measure the quantity of carbon saved on this planet’s forests and the way it adjustments over time,” Arianespace representatives wrote within the mission’s press equipment, which you could find here.

“Observations from this new mission may also result in higher perception into the charges of habitat loss and, because of this, the impact this will have on biodiversity within the forest surroundings,” they added.
