Born in 1888, artist and illustrator Chesley Bonestell turned well-known for his realistic paintings of space. His work spanned a long time and plenty of codecs and publications; maybe most influential was his collaboration with Wernher von Mind on the 1952–54 Collier’s collection, “Man Will Conquer Area Quickly!” By making the stuff of science fiction seem achievable, his art work helped kickstart the U.S. area program.
