A NASA spacecraft across the moon has photographed the crash web site of a Japanese firm’s lunar lander.

NASA launched the photographs Friday, two weeks after ispace’s lander slammed into the moon.

The photographs present a darkish smudge the place the lander, named Resilience, and its mini rover crashed into Mare Frigoris or Sea of Chilly, a volcanic area within the moon’s far north. A faint halo across the space was fashioned by the lunar dust kicked up by the affect.

NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter captured the scene final week.

The crash was the second failure in two years for Tokyo-based ispace. Firm officers plan to carry a information convention subsequent week to elucidate what doomed the newest mission, launched from Cape Canaveral in January.
