Location: Within the Carina spiral arm of our Milky Method Galaxy

Distance from Earth: About 20,000 light-years

Object kind: Nebula and open star cluster

Found by: Sir John Herschel in 1834

Imaged right here by the Hubble House Telescope, NGC 3603 is a set of hundreds of huge, scorching stars, together with among the most huge stars recognized to us. Scientists categorize it as an “open cluster” due to its spread-out form and low density of stars. Surrounding the brilliant star cluster are plumes of interstellar fuel and dirt, which comprise the nebula a part of this cosmic object. New stars are fashioned from the gaseous materials inside these clouds! NGC 3603 holds stars at quite a lot of life phases, making it a laboratory for scientists to check star evolution and formation. Astronomers estimate that star formation in and across the cluster has been occurring for 10 to twenty million years.

Learn extra details about NGC 3603 here.

Proper now, the Hubble House Telescope is delving into its #StarrySights marketing campaign! Discover extra star cluster content material and breathtaking new pictures by following alongside on Hubble’s Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
