The Giant Magellanic Cloud (LMC), which is the closest galaxy to our Milky Manner at about 159,000 mild years, is dwelling to about 60 globular clusters. Pictured right here is certainly one of these nice balls of stars, specifically NGC 2210, which shines within the night time sky at magnitude +11 within the Southern Hemisphere constellation of Doradus. Imaged by the Hubble House Telescope, it’s full of lots of of hundreds of stars.

NGC 2210 is a little bit of an outlier. In 2017 astronomers led by Rachel Wagner-Kaiser of the College of Florida measured the ages of six globular clusters within the LMC and located their imply age to be over 13 billion years previous, inside simply 200 to 400 million years of the start of our personal Milky Manner Galaxy’s most historic globular clusters.
