Occultation of Antares, Australia, January 15, 2026

On Thursday, January 15, Antares, the brightest begin in Scorpio, is occulted by the Moon as seen from the all of Australia. (see the desk beneath for main cities). In Western Australia the occultation is seen in good circumstances, the east coast sees the occultation  (or  agraze) in twilight and the occultation finish in daylight.

The occultation happens with the moon above the japanese horizon when the sky is coming into twilight for the Jap and central states. Perth and Western Australia typically sees the occultation begin low the south-eastern sky, and egress  considerably larger underneath darkish situations.  

Disappearance and look instances are given within the desk beneath. Different places will see the occultation at an analogous time for cities at an analogous latitude (eg Woomera is just like Adelaide).

Whereas the occultation is seen to the unaided eye, the sight shall be higher in binoculars or a small telescope. Arrange forward of time as a way to make sure all the pieces is working nicely and you’ll watch your complete occasion comfortably. Antares shall be clearly seen to the unaided eye close to the Moon.
