An obvious exterior coolant leak from a Russian laboratory module on the Worldwide House Station has been reported by the crew. It follows comparable leaks that struck a Russian Soyuz crew ferry craft and a Progress cargo ship throughout the previous 12 months.

This newest incident was reported by Mission Management Middle at NASA’s Johnson House Middle in Houston to NASA house station crew member Jasmin Moghbeli round 1 p.m. EDT (1700 UTC).

The MLM is the Multipurpose Laboratory Module, additionally referred to as “Nauka.” It’s the most recent module of the house station, having launched on a Russian Proton rocket on July 21, 2021.

“We copy and we expect we concur. We simply confirmed it with video they usually’re seeing it right here on the bottom,” Mission Management replied. “Jaws [a nickname for Moghbeli], are you able to please shut the cupola shutters?”

Lower than a minute later, Moghbeli confirmed the shutters have been closed. This was presumably to forestall the floor of the home windows being contaminated by the leaking coolant.
