ESA – House: 1977

A busy time for ESA’s ESTEC Check Centre within the Netherlands, seen on this classic photograph from March 1977.

The primary Italian telecommunications satellite tv for pc, SIRIO-1 (Satellite tv for pc Italiano per la Ricerca Industriale Orientata), is seen about to be positioned within the Check Centre’s Warmth Stability Facility 2 – the cylindrical thermal vacuum chamber laying open behind it.

The 400-kg satellite tv for pc went on to be launched into geostationary orbit by a US Delta 2312 launcher in August that 12 months. SIRIO-1 examined novel frequency bands from orbit for business use, serving to pave the way in which for Europe’s telecom satellite tv for pc business.

Historic area images and publications from 1977 have simply been added to ESA’s House Heritage Picture Mission, SHIP. Collections from further years are being added each few months, to rejoice the 60^th anniversary of European cooperation in area.

In 1964 the primary European area organisations have been based: ELDO (the European Launcher Improvement Organisation) and ESRO (the European House Analysis Organisation). These forerunners of ESA have been merged after simply over a decade, in 1975, to type in the present day’s European House Company.
