UPDATE on Comet C/2025 R2 (PANSTARRS)

Comet C/2025 R3 captured from Caufield Australia by Con Stoitsis ©, May 4th.

Comet C/2025 R3 (PANSTARRS) has been recovered within the Southern Hemisphere and Australasia by a number of observers. Magnitude appears to be within the order of 5 or so. Though this makes it theoretically
darkish sky seen to the unaided eye, most observers will discover binoculars or a small telescope finest.

The comet is
now climbing into darker skies and will likely be seen when the sky is full
darkish. I’ve been capable of detect it in 10×50 binocular at nautical
twilight, so it ought to stay seen when it will get totally darkish for
a number of days, particularly because the  moon wanes.

After all this cloud allowing. Which it hasn’t been.

Whereas there was excellent photographs of the comet (see here and here) they’re all lengthy exposures, although binoculars it is going to appear to be a small fuzzy ball with a stubby tail

I lastly bought Comet C/2025 R3 after days of rain and cloud. It was nonetheless cloudy, however there have been gaps that allow me catch it in binoculars. Its the fuzzy dot roughly within the centre above the road of three stars. My lengthy publicity bought photobombed by clouds so I am not presenting it. Beneath troublesome circumstances with twilight and drifting clouds interfering I estimated possibly magnitude 5.5?

Comet C/2025 R3, 4May, 2026 at 18:39 ACST as captured with my Samsung S24, 5x zoom, ISO 3200 and a couple of seconds publicity from Largs Bay. The small unprepossessing fuzzy blob roughly within the centre is the comet, evaluate with the stellarium chart. t the precise.
